Nordisk Brænderi – Crafted by Nature, Inspired by Adventure

Tucked away in the rolling landscape near Jammerbugten Bay, Nordisk Brænderi is more than just a distillery — it’s a story about Nordic nature, wild adventures, and handcrafted spirits made with heart and soul.

Since opening its doors in March 2009, Nordisk Brænderi has been producing a wide range of distinctive and award-winning spirits from its two copper stills.

Every bottle carries the taste of the North — shaped by raw nature, clean air, and local ingredients.

Barley grown along the slopes of the Hødal valley becomes the foundation for our whisky, while herbs and botanicals from the surrounding forests infuse our gin and aquavit with true regional character.

The distillery was founded by adventurer and explorer Anders Bilgram. After completing the world’s first open-boat expedition around the Arctic Ocean, Anders returned home with frostbitten toes, wild stories, and a burning idea.

Along his journey, he’d encountered locals with their own takes on spirits — jungle brews, moonshines, and secret recipes.

Inspired by those encounters — and thoughts of his wife Githa’s glowing glass studio back home — he decided to create something truly unique: a distillery rooted in nature and born of adventure.

For Anders, freedom and independence have always been the guiding stars. He took his first solo trek at 17 into the Arctic wilderness of Sarek National Park.

From there, his path led through Greenland, Alaska, and across 26,000 kilometers of Arctic waters as expedition leader of Polar Passage 2000.

His most recent journey — Expedition Ellesmere 2019 — sparked the creation of Nordisk Klan: the world’s first subscription community connected to a craft distillery.

At Nordisk Brænderi, every drop tells a story. Of wild landscapes. Of wind and weather. Of spirit — in every sense of the word.
